Google phone has revolutionized the smart phone industry totally. They have introduced this android software in this google phone. How can one describe this software in one word? Openness. This whole approach of the google is for the openness. The smart phones available in the market before the entry of this google phone were all closed end products. This google software called as android is available for free use for any manufacturer of mobile phones. The developers are free to develop heir own new applications on this platform. There is so much discussion all over the internet about the openness of the market only because of this google phone. Does this openness apply to the feature called as google phone unlock? Let us explore this subject of google phone unlock in more details. There are mobiles in the market where you can not use any other sim cards for your mobile. When you buy a mobile your sim card giving company is decided and that is it. You are forced to buy the sim card from the same company till you use that mobile. This is very clearly obstructive or restrictive policies. If the google phone is all about openness then what sort of policies it have regarding this sim replacement? This is possible in theory. In practice there are limitations. The first fact is that this t mobile carrier is having 3g sim card. There are not any other 3g mobile carrier companies except AT and T. So it is possible to change your Tmobile sim card with that of AT and T. But again there are limitations of technology. The Tmobile carrier uses 1700/2100US 3g bands. This AT and T does not use this band. As there are compatibility problems, it is not possible to use this sim. It can work on the EDGE network like that of the original iphone network. The official condition is that after ninety days usage you can unlock this google phone. This means you can change the sim card after the ninety days use. There is controversy regarding price that you have to pay if you unlock this google phone. This surely is not openness that customer expected in this google phone. In future there will be lot many 3g net work providers. The real test of this goggle phone unlock feature will be tested at that time.
